Abstract: As editor of two newsletters on the broad societal impact of technology on our future, I have come to the conclusion that the Peer to Peer principle is the key to understanding the unfolding of the next social model. P2P can first be traced in the field of technology, as the structure of the internet, in the file sharing model, and in more and more conceptions such as grid networking, mesh networks, and ad hoc networks in wireless. It is the technology, but also the production process, of which it can arguably be demonstrated that it is getting to be more productive than the old industrial paradigms. But P2P is of course also a form of social organisation, found in the first expressions of the post-global political movements, collaborative networking in enterprises, the free software and open source movements. Further, it is a culture, a worldview, as demonstrated by Pekka Himanen. And finally, it is a mode of the self, including the new ways of experiencing or dealing with spiritual concerns, as demonstrated by new methodologies such as John Heron's cooperative inquiry.

The purpose of the talk is to go through the different manifestations of peer to peer. We will also introduce the notion of evolutionary integralism (Jean Gebser, Ken Wilber, Don Beck, Temenos system) and how this can be squared with the need for a radical political subjectivity based on an understanding of the extreme nature of the challenges to humanity. Finally, we will stress that the advantage of using p2p is that it indeed integrates the basic moral stance of considering our fellow human beings as equals, and to only engage in cooperation without the use of exploitative power.
